K001 is a workshop experience at the Kym Việt workshop in Hà Nội. It runs 150 minutes, covers 7 activities, and carries the theme “From heart to hands: empathy and creativity”. Guidance is bilingual Vietnamese – English. By the end, each participant takes home a stuffed toy or a hand-painted pillow they made themselves.
Families often ask before booking: what will my child actually see, and will they get to work with their own hands or just sit and listen? The sections below cover what can be observed of the makers’ craft during the programme.
Which craft details does the instructor point out?

In K001, the instructor shows participants specific details of working with fabric: how to pick the right side of the cloth, how to set a line of stitching, and how to stuff a piece so it stays even instead of bulging at the corners. These look quick to the eye. They feel different once you hold the material yourself.
Kym Việt was founded in 2013 and makes handmade goods mainly from fabric. The workshop has more than 100 artisans with disabilities, many of them deaf, who work with their hands and eyes. During the session, the instructor explains each step in spoken language and in sign language, so families can follow even when young children are not used to long explanations.
How do families watch, try and talk it through?

The session is ordered watch first, do second. Participants stand at the work table, watch the instructor go through a step slowly, then pick up the materials and try it. Workshop materials are included in the programme, along with drinking water and a light snack.
Most of the time is set aside for participants to work on their own. Children tend to ask questions the moment a stitch line goes crooked, and the instructor takes their hand and guides it again. That is also when families talk to each other about what just went wrong, rather than only watching.
One more part of K001: participants learn some sign language, and the café on site takes drink orders in sign language. For families with young children, this is often the part they remember longest.

What should families ask before booking K001?
K001 runs Monday to Saturday. Book at least 3 working days ahead; groups over 30 people should book 5–7 days ahead. Group size ranges from 1 to more than 100 guests, and groups over 50 are split into parallel sessions. There is no fixed price list; quotes are per group, and the larger the group, the better the per-person rate. The programme includes 8% VAT, drinking water, a light snack, workshop materials and a souvenir.
Before locking a date, families should ask three things: whether the date they want still has room, whether the hands-on part suits the ages of their children, and what their group needs to prepare. The main booking number for experiences is 0973 834 810; the backup number is 0915 573 755. Support hours are Monday to Saturday, 08:00 – 17:30. Address: 123 Trung Văn, Đại Mỗ, Hà Nội.
